Price tag of cargo theft is on the rise
Despite the technology at our disposal today, cargo theft – possibly the oldest crime in the world – is still a more than $15 billion problem in 2017.1
Maybe that’s because the thieves themselves have become more organized and sophisticated, even enlisting modern technologies to commit this age-old crime. Criminals are now using equipment to locate and remove tracking devices inside trailers and intermodal containers aimed at preventing theft as well as 3D printers to replicate trailer door seals after the theft to cover up their efforts.
Get ahead of them
The dollar value of stolen cargo - $175 million annually - is only a fraction of the total cost associated with cargo loss. Customers that don’t receive their product could be forced to seek other vendors, product quality could be compromised as the supply chain is no longer controlled and significant expediting costs could result from resupplying clients.
