Insurance Types

How you use your vehicle affects your likelihood of having a claim. Therefore, it also affects your premium. Having the right insurance for how you use your vehicle is very important. With the wrong insurance, you may not be covered or you could be paying more than you should be. Remember to chose the insurance type that best suits your life style.

All-Purpose: An all-purpose passenger vehicle is used for pleasure driving and for driving to or from – or part way to or from – work or school, or for business purposes (excluding common carrier passenger vehicle).

Pleasure: A pleasure passenger vehicle can't be used for any business purposes. It can only be driven to or from – or part way to or from – work or school up to four days in one month, and not more than 1,609 km to or from work or school during an annual registration period. It can be used to drive dependants to and from school, without limits. Students can't drive a vehicle to school regularly on pleasure use.

Lay-Up/Storage: When you take your vehicle off the road for an extended period – putting it away for the winter, for example – you could just keep your registration and road coverage. Lay-up polcies do not cover collision.

Vehicle For Hire: If you drive for a rideshare company such as TappCar or Uber! Passenger Vehicle For Hire coverage is simple and flexible.

Common-Carrier: A common carrier passenger vehicle is used by a courier or common carrier within a city or municipality, or for any other delivery purposes in connection with a business, trade or occupation, more than four days in one month or more than 1,609 km during an annual registration period. Ideal for those working for food delivery services such as SkipTheDishes or DoorDash.

Commercial: Vehicles used as part of your business operations.

Coverage Options

Based on your specific needs, you can alter your autopac policy.

Third Party Liability: If your car is in an accident, you can be legally responsible for damage or injuries others claim against you – even if you weren’t driving it at the time.

Auto Loss of Use: Covers the cost of replacement transportation if your vehicle can’t be driven, or is unsafe to drive, because it was stolen or damaged accidentally, regardless of fault. It is available for each claim you have where your vehicle is not drivable or needs repairs.

Dedcutible: When you make a claim with Manitoba Public Insurance, you must pay your deductible. This is your portion of the cost of the claim. We are responsible for everything over the deductible portion, up to the policy limits. For example, if your total claim is $2,000, you will pay your $500 deductible and we will pay $1,500. Or if you had a $200 deductible, you would pay $200 and we would pay $1,800. If the damage to your vehicle is less than your deductible, you do not have to file a claim.

Leased Car protection: Leased Vehicle Protection covers your down payment (if any) and/or trade-in allowance. For brand-new vehicles, it protects you for two years. For late-model used vehicles, the coverage lasts until the vehicle is two-years-old.
