Norman Newman

First Vice President, Fine Arts

Norman Newman currently serves as First Vice President of the Fine Art Division at HUB International Northeast. With over 45 years of industry experience, Norman specializes in arranging insurance and risk management programs for the entire Fine Art industry including collectors, dealers, auctioneers, museums, exhibitors, artists, publishers, packers and shippers, lenders, storage warehouses, conservators, etc. His responsibilities include servicing and advising HUB’s broad base Fine Art clientele on all of their coverage needs, and he also serves as the program/underwriting manager for several quality insurers, maintaining binding authorities as high as $50 million for many well known carriers.

Norman began his insurance career as a marine underwriter (inland and cargo) and life insurance producer for Eastern Life and others, making the “Leaders Club” in the first few years. In 1966, he became a full time broker with general practice, but heavy concentration on textile and clothing manufacturing and importing. In 1968, he merged with another broker and began trading under the name Great Northern Brokerage, which specialized in Fine Art, entertainment, commercial real estate, and supermarkets. In 1987, Norman separated from his partners to form New Northern, where he developed products for and serviced the Fine Art Industry, as well as large commercial real estate accounts and importers. While at New Northern, he wrote unique risks including the creation of first art title and authenticity program; covering the scientific experiment in one of the space shuttle launchings; the largest yearling sale and covered that bloodstock for two years in France; the transport of a Rhino for stud going to various zoos. New Northern was sold to Kaye Insurance Associates in 1993. Kaye became part of HUB International in 2001.

In acknowledgement of their expertise, the Fine Art Division has, for many years, served as program/underwriting managers for a number of quality insurers represented by them including Travelers, Praetorian, Berkley Asset Protection and XL Specialty. HUB’s in-house authories enable the Fine Art Division to act with immediacy in satisfying the risk needs of its direct insureds as well as their agent/broker representatives. Norman prides himself and his team for always being at the forefront of developing new coverages and products for the Fine Art industry.

Norman has participated in many seminars throughout his career and has been a guest speaker at many notable venues including the Metropolitan Museum and the Guggenheim in the 1970's; Long Beach Museum, Palm Springs Desert Museum, California State University and New York University Art Law Day in 2008.
