All employers sponsoring health plans – large, small, regardless of funding type – need a clear understanding of how insurance Exchanges will operate in 2014 and beyond. Although the rules regarding these entities initially affect smaller plan sponsors who use the Exchange starting in 2014, the rules also affect larger employers’ strategic planning in very significant new ways. This Client Bulletin emphasizes issues of particular interest to all size employers.
We anticipate reform will result in sweeping market changes for insurance products and plan designs inside and outside the Exchange. Understanding the structure and operation of a typical Exchange will enable a larger employer to make better informed and more precise long-term plans.
