The IRS has just released a notice indicating a delay in reporting information on the cost of employer-sponsored health coverage, to appear on the Form W-2 for 2011. (The Form W-2 covers the calendar year of 2011, and will be issued in January 2012). The delay announced by the IRS should allow employers additional time to comply with the new requirement, such as by making necessary changes to their payroll systems. The Notice is not specific regarding the length of the delay, but the requirement will become effective after the IRS believes employers are better able to comply.

The IRS promises to issue additional guidance on the issue later this quarter.
